Members of the public are invited to nominate an inspiring individual from the local community for an Honorary Degree or Fellowship from the University

Each year, the University awards individuals with Honorary Degrees or Honorary Fellowships. These prestigious awards recognise individuals who have achieved significant distinction in their field and have a connection to the University or local area, or are interested in similar research themes. The University also gives the award of Honorary Fellowships to individuals of distinction who have made a significant contribution to the University and its wider community.
Over the years, the University has awarded over 200 Honorary Degrees or Honorary Fellowships, recent recipients include:
- Paralympic Triathlon Champion and University PhD student Lauren Steadman MBE;
- Anna Mitchell, Director of Business Development UK Teams and Sports at Fanatics, Inc.;
- Community artist Janet Ayers;
- Major Tim Peake, Astronaut who studied Flight Dynamics and Evaluation at the university, graduating in 2006
- Broadcaster, writer and adventurer Ben Fogle, who graduated from the university in 1998
- Pioneering business leader and current University Chancellor Karen Blackett OBE.
The nominee can not be a sitting Member of Parliament, an existing member of staff, an existing University Governor or a posthumous nomination. The nominations will be considered by the Honorary Degrees and Awards Committee and will be presented at the University’s Graduation ceremonies in July 2024
The deadline for nominations is Saturday 30 September.
