Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
- Some of our links are non-descriptive to screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 2.4.4
- Some video content is not properly captioned or with audio descriptions. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.2.2
- Some of our PDFs and other documents published after 23 September 2018 - or published before that date but essential for administrative processes - don't fully meet accessibility requirements. For example, some do not have descriptive titles, this fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 2.4.2
- Some of our website images do not have a meaningful text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1
- Some of our website images include text as part of the image, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails the WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.5
- At 400% zoom, none of the links in the collapsed sidebar 'Menu' are visible on the screen. In mobile view (320x256), the links below 'Company Information' are no longer visible. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10.
On some of our forms:
- The combobox aria-controls attributes that link the listbox elements programmatically are not present. This fails WCAG 2.1 A success criterion 1.3.1. We are working with our supplier to resolve this.
- The combobox elements do not have aria-expanded attributes present. This fails WCAG 2.1 A success criterion 1.3.1. We are working with our supplier to resolve this.
- The role of the Clear button in some input elements cannot be programmatically determined. This fails WCAG 2.1 A success criterion 4.1.2. We are working with our supplier to resolve this.
- There are announcements when the autocomplete search tool is used in the comboboxes that do not announce the correct number of options. This fails WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion 4.1.3. We are working with our supplier to resolve this.
Disproportionate burden
There are currently no issues on www.port..ac.uk, myport.port.ac.uk and sport.port.ac.uk that we consider to be a disproportionate burden to fix.
Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Documents
- Documents that were published on the website before 23 September 2018 that are not needed for active administrative processes relating to tasks performed by the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ.
Maps
- Online maps and mapping services are exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Third-party tools
The СÀ¶ÊÓƵ makes use of some free third-party tools which are exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations. We are aware of some accessibility issues on things like:

We will make sure that these tools are updated when the accessibility issues have been resolved. Also, some of the University’s content owners may choose to link to third-party content hosted on external websites that are not owned, paid for, or developed by the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ. This content may not be accessible.
What we're doing to improve accessibility
We intend to produce a publicly available accessibility roadmap by the end of September 2025.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 05 September 2023. It was last reviewed on 8 August 2024.
This website was last tested on 29 July 2023. Some new pages, interactive elements and content has also be tested since that date. The test was carried out by .
We followed guidance on deciding how to check the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ's websites as follows:
- We used an automated website mapping tool to identify all the pages and documents on the website.
- We identified a minimum representative subset of pages that contain examples of the most common layouts, components and features, including:
- The header and footer.
- Important unique pages.
- Interactive elements such as forms, tabbed interfaces, carousels, hide / reveal functionality and content filtering. - We conducted a manual WCAG audit on the representative subset of pages.
- We conducted three rounds of fixing and retesting, such that most WCAG non-conformances have been fixed.
- one round of automated accessibility testing has been conducted on a larger subset of the pages.
