Keen to find out how the Budget might impact you or your business? Examining its implications on the South East region is the focus of a public event being held this week.
Hosted by the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, it will take place on Wednesday, November 13, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.
The event will feature a lecture by Professor Stephen Millard, Deputy Director of (NIESR). Professor Millard, who was born and raised in СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, will provide a comprehensive analysis of the 2024 Budget, exploring questions around UK economic growth, borrowing sustainability, inflation, interest rates, employment, and the balance between public and private investment. His talk will include a focus on the South East, examining the likely local impacts and economic outlook.
Following recent changes under the Labour government, businesses and individuals are eager to understand the Budget’s implications. The lecture will explore key questions, including:
- How will policy changes affect the UK’s economic growth trajectory?
- Are the Chancellor’s borrowing levels sustainable?
- What is the impact of tax and spending on inflation and the Bank of England’s interest rate decisions?
- How will businesses, wages, and employment in the South East be affected?

About Professor Stephen Millard
Professor Millard, a respected economist with deep ties to СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, has an impressive background in central banking and macroeconomic policy. A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, and Northwestern University, Professor Millard served for 26 years at the Bank of England, where he specialised in research on employment, inflation, and central banking policy. He joined NIESR in 2022 and has been a Visiting Professor at the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ since 2021. His research has been published in leading journals, and he is recognised as a leading voice in macroeconomic analysis and forecasting.
