Qualifications, grades and other entry requirements
Every course is different, but whatever your chosen subject, we've got requirements you'll need to meet
Before you apply for a Bachelor's degree or another undergraduate course, you need to check you'll meet the entry requirements.
Each year, we accept students from a broad range of backgrounds, and course requirements may differ year on year. You'll see entry requirements for our courses on each course page.
But our decisions aren't based purely on exam results. We consider every factor we believe showcases your excellence and potential when we assess your application.
What entry requirements include
Entry requirements outline what qualifications and grades you need in what subjects, before you start the course.
Entry requirements can also include:
- a successful admissions test or exam
- a successful audition
- a successful individual or group interview
- a successful health check (for health-based courses)
- a successful criminal records check
- a portfolio
- professional experience
- English language qualifications (if English isn’t your first language)
If your course needs an interview, audition, test or exam, we'll invite you to do this after you've applied.
If your course needs a health or criminal records check, you can usually do this after we've offered you a place.
Typical offers
We often show A level grades, BTEC grades and UCAS points as a range. This is a guide to the grades or number of UCAS points students achieve in the typical offers we make for a course.
For example, a typical offer for a course might look like this:
- A levels: AAB-ABB
- UCAS Points: 128-136 points
- BTEC Extended Diploma: DDD-DDM
- IB: 30-31
- T levels : Merit - Distinction
We usually make offers at the higher end of the range for the most popular courses and we can't always guarantee you a place on a course if you've met all the entry requirements.
Remember – the ranges of grades and UCAS points highlighted above are just an example – check your course page for the specific entry requirements.
Other qualifications we commonly accept
As well as A levels, T levels and BTECs, other common qualifications we accept include:
- Access to Higher Education
- Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers
- Welsh Baccalaureate
- Irish Leaving Certificate
This isn't a complete list. Get in touch with our Admissions Team if your qualifications aren’t listed above – we accept other qualifications and relevant professional experience on many of our courses.
Calculate your UCAS points
If you're not sure if your A level, T level or BTEC grades meet the entry requirements, or you've studied other qualifications, you can see if you'll meet the entry requirements by adding-up your UCAS points.
Our UCAS Points Calculator also explains what UCAS points are and how they work and we answer your frequently asked questions about UCAS points.
How we assess your application
We believe excellence and potential are demonstrated in a range of ways. When you apply to us, we take all of the information you give us into account – not just your grades. Find out more about how we assess your application.
